I have the honour to report thaton the 14th
August owing to a rumour of an outbreak of cholera in Nasão, telegram of enquiry was sent, and a reply ma rescived on the following day to the effect that from the 1st, August there had been fourtem deaths from sholera, seventy-four from enteric fever, and twenty from typhoid fever,
Quarantine restrictions were at once brought into force against arrivals from Macko, and I at the ammo timo decided to put inte operation Ordinanco To. 3 of 1895, where- -under by proclamation of the Governor-in-Council the immigra- -tion of Chinese into Hongkong from Mheao has been prohibited for a period of one month from the 16th, August.

I attach sopies of correspondenso with the Governor of Macao on the subject. I enclose also a copy of a report by the Medical Officer of Health regarding the presence of cholera in Hongkong.
As a precautionary measurə arrangemanta
have been made for the immediate reception at thỏ Lai Chi Kok Quarantine Station of 250 'Contacta'; and preparations can be made to receive a very much larger number there at the shortest notice.
There is however no reason to anticipate
a serious outbreak of cholera in Hongkong, in spite of the
present crowded state of the Colony, as the epidemic has not
